About Shalom Catering
Specializing in fine Kosher Catering
Shalom Catering is a joint venture between Chef Jeff Rossman of Terra Restaurant and Catering in Hillcrest and Chef Edwin Blumberg at the San Diego Jewish Academy in Carmel Valley. While providing Glatt Kosher catering from either the meat or the dairy kitchens located at the school, the two Chefs' passion for food and attention to detail shows in how they run their businesses. Staying focused on quality and presentation while being reliable and responsive to each client's needs and expectations is of the utmost importance. The two bring a unique combination of experience and expertise which will enable Shalom Catering to plan and execute a flawless event for you.
Jeff Rossman has been involved in San Diego's hospitality industry since 1981 when he began as a dishwasher at Pam Pam Café & Grill, the family's restaurant. Jeff's passion for cooking led him to an externship in Boston and then he convinced his father to put their experiences together to open Terra Restaurant & Bar in May 1998. Jeff Rossman is one of those rare talents who never attended culinary school. With an eye for detail and service, he has seen his business grow and gain local and national media attention. Under Rossman's creative guidance, Terra has achieved consistent acclaim from Zagat, the Southern California Restaurant Writers Association, and the Wine Spectator. In addition, Terra was recognized as a finalist in the San Diego Magazine's Reader's Poll, in the Union Tribune's Reader's Poll and voted Best Kept Secret in The San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles magazine. For the past three years, Jeff has launched a successful catering division of Terra and landed his company in over 25 outside catering venues. Jeff recently decided to partner with Edwin and the San Diego Jewish Academy to start Shalom Kosher Catering to bring upscale kosher food to San Diegans.
Edwin Blumberg has more than thirty years experience in the hospitality industry. Spanning four continents while earning his degree in business, he apprentices with world renowned Empire Hotels and received his Executive Chef and Hotel Management Certifications. He worked in London, England's famous Harrods food hall before going to Lucerne, Switzerland where he obtained Executive Chef status from the prestigious Hotel School. He later traveled to Hong Kong and then Canada where he owned and operated over sixty restaurants in conjunction with his consulting company. Upon moving to San Diego in 1992, he continued consulting and also opened Blumberg's Delicatessen in Del Mar and La Jolla. Edwin later opened Edwin Blumberg Catering, a strictly kosher catering company and joined forces with the San Diego Jewish Academy where he also facilitates their food program.
